Earth Harmony 101

Category 1: Electing a US Governement (President, Senate, and Congress), which represents the people and the best interests of the planet, not special interests, corporation interests and profiteering military industrialization.

Summary:
In this election year of 2004, the catch-22 of money has surfaced. The McCain-Feingold Bill has attempted to limit large contributions from corporations and individuals, so that once elected, a policitian would have no strings attached and favors owed in return for the financial contribution. However both parties are accumulating millions of dollars nonetheless, through section 527, which allows gifts to a separate entity unrelated to the campaign, and unlimited $2,000 contributions, bundled by bundlers at different $100,000 levels. Simply said, the money finds other ways around the dam. Both parties claim this money is necessary to compete against the other candidate and a money-earning race is generated with the media picking huge profits from an ad war. Once elected, donors can call in their favors from the elected politician. Some candidates stay out of this type of money raising, but are considered minor candidates and do not receive the attention the major candidates receive, so no strings attached can mean no debt owing, but significantly less exposure.

Solutions
1. While making contributions to Politicians illegal, increasing salaries of Senators, Congressmen, and officials to be more consistent with salaries of the business community they represent. Let them earn $500,000 to $1,000,000 a year. Then they have significant funds to run a decent campaign, and don't need to be tempted with illegal special interest money. In addition, airwaves, which are owned by the public, need to offer free time to candidates for advertising, taking away the need for much of the fundraising efforts and allow the candidates to compete on even turf.

Category 2: Replacing an oil-based transportation economy with a pollution-free economy

Summary: Oil burned in automobiles, and factories, etc is responsible for a warming of the atmosphere creating a greenhouse effect which is increasing. In addition, countries such as China, which are adding each year as many roads as all of the roads of France to their country, will be soon increasing the demand for oil there is a finite amount. Countries with significant oil have been the focus of wars for power and control of that oil.

Solution: Hybrids, Hydrogen, Solar, Wind, Waves, Nuclear, etc. all have shortcomings and are not 100% perfect. A combination of them is a short-term solution, with the inclusion of nuclear creating a dirty solution. New inventions are to be brought forth, yet oil companies have lobbied biodiesel out of California, and taken tax credits from Palm Springs Windmills. A combination of political and technological advancements are needed, with attention to this as a Presidential Debate issue to bring it into the focus. Huge tax breaks are needed to be given to companies that reduce use of fossil fuels and pave the way towards renewables.

Category 3: Acknowledgement of our Spiritual and Political Interdependence

Summary: We currently live within many systems across the globe, which allow the strong to exploit the weak, either through force, laws, or permanent indebtedness. The less fortunate put faith in the system to create opportunities for them to better themselves, yet too many times this dream remains out of reach for generations. How do we break this cycle so that all can have food, shelter, health care and other basic necessities?

Solution: Every system on the planet, spiritual and political, is inseparably connected to every other system. By taking responsibility for ourselves and each other, we build a system that co-operates in harmony with others, and cares for ourselves at the same time. If the poor and hungry are fed first, last and always, we incur a dividend of security, peace and joy. Tolerance is more than allowance; it is also respect for, and appreciation of our differences.

Category 4: The US political system exists as a dual party system, whereby partisanship exists, often at a cost of efficiency and justice. Other political parties also exist, and receive little attention.

Solution: An effort can be made to unite the disparage among these faction. One such attempt can be a day deemed for National Unity, called National Unity Day. This day would find the common ground among all parties, all people, in the hope of creating a national dialogue whereby people and parties would become open to each other's ideas, and rise above differences to observe the simple and basic principles of the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness as outlines in the the Delaration of Independance. This holiday could be intertwined with July 4, or Sept. 11, or have it's own day.

Catagory 5: Power to heal and improve the conditions of the world are inherent and accessable within everyone.

Solution: Working with our powers to improve ourselves and raise our consciousness through utilizing our inherint qualities of discernment has an effect on the world. True power is within, through changing ourselves, not by changing others, of being honest with ones self, in order to be know honesty from others. Act locally and think globally in order to create change across the world, yet start with our own consciousness, the most local of locations.
