A Spiritual Declaration of Independence
By Lou Martin
I am a human being.
I require…Love…Warmth…Friendship
and a feeling of belonging to a greater whole
I desire for my self and all humanity ONLY THIS!
That we remember our oneness in Spirit
That we pray for our enemies and loved ones
with the same passion and depth of care.
That we truly see ourselves as a family as we
Look into each other's eyes.
Whether waking or dreaming
We know…
We know there is a Higher Power
We know there is a silent author.
We hear the quiet whisper.
The invitation that this moment offers
And we remember
We remember.
God/Goddess/All That Is
Is not a man or woman.
Not a church or a country
Not a paper or a book, not even a very good book
Nor a dream…
Or anything or anyone that can be named or described
It cannot be contained…
It will not be denied forever…
The mind alone can never reach it
The heart united will not forget it.
It is always more.
Love and Light
Peace and Mercy
Goodness and Truth
Kindness and Beauty
Thank you for Life, Father Mother God
There is always so much, and so much more
Sweet Spirit
In the beginning was…is now…and shall be
And ever more shall ever be.
Calling…
Crying out…
Shouting loud…
To you and me
To you who would be truly chosen
To choose to hear the call of love, compassion, mercy,
Tolerance, strength, beauty, wisdom, courage, happiness and truth
To choose your truest self first
And say…"Yes!"
To believe that something better is not only possible,
But necessary.
To remember the dignity and dreams of our ancestors
And the prayers and the love of our children's children
Yet to be
To know that a New Heaven and a New Earth
Are one and the same
Being born,
Busy being born…
Today, Right Now, Here
On the backs of the weary
In the belly of the hungry
In the tears of the lonely
In the banks of the wealthy
On the bones of the dead
In the beds of the lovers
In the fires of the battles
In the dreams of the frightened
In the lies told and the promises forgotten
In the story to be written whose ending seems unknowable
And in you
In you my Beloved
Always in you
Remember
To come home
I am here
And I am waiting…
Waiting, waiting, waiting,
And I choose you…
To Remember
