SEEDS OF PEACE MURALS
Images of peace to shape a peaceful future.
Creative expression and fostering artistic development.
Utilizing talents and imagination of schoolchildren to uplift their community.
Beyond the absence of war, peace is a way of living in which enriches our lives and our world. We can develop our awareness of how to live a peaceful life through art and imagination.
Peace is living in a state of harmony with the earth and all it’s creatures.
It is maintaining balance, between the grand and the humble, the mountain and the dewdrop.
It is creating safe and fruitful places to live, to work, to play, to cherish.
It is embracing the needs of the many, while upholding the freedom of the individual.

SEEDS OF PEACE 1
Painted in 2002, Seeds of Peace 1. now brightens a large parking lot which was becoming a hazard to the community. The Earth Harmony Foundation was commissioned to install the mural, which can be viewed at the southwest corner of Vanowen and Coldwater Canyon in North Hollywood. Two classrooms of students from Kittredge Elementary school prepared drawings in their classroom, and then came out on a Saturday morning, and painted their own “seed of peace”.
Seeds of Peace Mural Project Earth Day Every Day
Murals to promote peace and environmental stewardship
Projects include working with City Government, private businesses, and public and private schools to add beauty and inspiration in locations that are needed. Some projects allow students to participate by designing their ‘seed of peace’ and painting it on the mural with their school.
‘Visions of Harmony’
Additional murals on walls and alleys in the San Fernando Valley
The ‘Seeds of Peace Mural Project’ is a program in which school children from local communities design their ‘seed’ of peace, and paint it on a mural. In this way, they develop their artistic skills and focus on the world they would like to see in the future. They are educated about respecting the community and community beautification in an effort to reduce graffiti.
Locations include neighborhood alleys, walls of businesses, and exteriors and interiors of schools, so that children and communities can have reason to feel good about where they live and work. At the same time, art and positive messages are encouraged in the neighborhood. Graffiti is often covered over and prevented.
Artist Gary ‘Dov’ Gertzweig led this activity and then painted the larger mural.
Dov was joined by artist Erial, to paint the mural for ‘EARTH DAY EVERY DAY’ mural on Sherman Way and the Tujunga Wash, between Woodman and Fulton, in Van Nuys/North Hollywood.
City Councilwoman Wendy Greuel’s office contacted the Earth Harmony Foundation and commissioned the mural, Seeds of Peace, which now brightens a large parking lot that was becoming a hazard to the community.
It can be viewed at the southwest corner of Vanowen and Coldwater Canyon in North Hollywood. Two classrooms of students from Kittredge Elementary school prepared their sketches and and then came out on a Saturday morning and painted their own “seed of peace” within upon the wall.
